About Us
Prehospital Providers for the Progress of EMS is a participatory action research project started by field paramedics and EMTs to build grassroots support for the advancement of Emergency Medical Services. The fundamental idea of this project is that Emergency Medical Services must reach a position of self-regulation through the gathering of knowledge, practical skills and collective wisdom to support grassroots actions.
Efforts to improve the quality of EMS, in both the medical and administrative aspects, have become more frequent. The success of these efforts depends upon widespread support of field paramedics and EMTs. Field personnel must be actively engaged in the advancement of EMS because no other entity is as qualified to identify solutions to the many problems we face as we try to better serve our communities.
What We are Doing
Prehospital Providers aims to gather paramedics and EMTs into a proactive mindset, to think globally and act locally as we work to improve our profession. We invite all prehospital providers to participate in this collective research project as we actively engage in:
- Research pertaining to the advancement of EMS
- Developing and providing tools to aid improvement efforts
- Connecting individuals with EMS programs that will help providers fill a need in their system
How to Get Involved
Contributing While Still Maintaining a Balanced Life
We aim to provide contribution opportunities that don't overwhelm any individual and encourage all levels of contribution. Participatory research is unique in that it is essentially a grassroots movement. For this reason we gain momentum from any amount of contribution.
The most minimal involvement will consist of occasional surveys or action items. We encourage all prehospital care providers to participate at this level and join our mailing list. To receive notification of these events please register for our community.
Becoming Further Involved With This Project
There are many other ways for paramedics and EMTs to become involved in this project that will help the success of this movement:
- Article Submission
- Leadership
- Research Design
- Focus Communities
- Information Sharing
